Ooredoo launches AI assistant "Ooredoo Evee" for customer service

Ooredoo has deployed Ooredoo Evee, an AI-powered conversational assistant integrated into its SuperApp and website, designed to handle routine transactional queries whilst routing complex issues to live agents. The platform covers standard self-service functions—balance checks, bill payments, plan upgrades, recharging—alongside predictive product recommendations based on usage patterns and a feedback loop for continuous refinement. The architecture follows the now-standard hybrid model: AI handles resolution where possible, escalates to human agents when necessary, and maintains conversation continuity across channels. This positions Ooredoo alongside the wave of telco-led AI deployments that have become table stakes in the sector.

The strategic implication here centres on whether Ooredoo's implementation represents genuine capability advancement or incremental feature parity. The company emphasises seamless handoff to live agents and feedback integration, yet the source material contains no detail on deflection rates, resolution accuracy, or whether Evee actually reduces contact centre volume—metrics that separate effective AI deployments from expensive chatbot theatre. Given that two-thirds of Malaysia's AI customer service chatbots fail to understand conversational nuance, Ooredoo's success will hinge on whether Evee's NLU actually handles the linguistic variation of its customer base or simply pattern-matches against predefined intents. For teams already running Salesforce Service Cloud or Zendesk with AI modules, the question becomes whether regional telcos are building differentiated models or simply licensing commodity LLM wrappers.

The broader concern for CX leaders is the absence of guardrails discussion. Ooredoo mentions a feedback system but says nothing about hallucination prevention, data security in conversational logs, or how the platform handles out-of-scope requests. As agentic AI systems become more autonomous, the risk profile shifts from "chatbot gives wrong answer" to "chatbot makes commitments or accesses sensitive data without proper validation." Ooredoo's roadmap to expand Evee's capabilities suggests feature velocity will outpace governance maturity—a pattern that typically surfaces in support tickets six months post-launch.
